Mineola Main Street Program 2024

Promoting Economic Development through Historic Preservation

Mineola Main Street Program - since 1989.

In 1989, Mineola was selected by the Texas Historical Commission to participate in a new program designed to help communities revitalize their downtown districts. With much hard work, determined staff and volunteers Mineola became a star in the program and in 2000 was recognized on the national level receiving designation as a National Main Street City by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Since then the program has produced the development of a strong, focused historic downtown district, with over eleven million dollars of investment made by private and public funds in the central business district.

Main Street is the heart and soul of a community and with the city, merchants, and the community's strong commitment to revitalizing the historic homes and downtown area, Mineola continues to establish itself as a tourist destination. The Main Street Board, under the supervision of the city, continues to make successful strides in historic preservation, economic vitality in downtown, and a concentrated marketing program that will foster continued growth in our community. The Main Street Advisory Board's mission is to use historic preservation as a method of restoring a positive image to downtown, while creating economic growth for the community.

In 2013, the Main Street Program along with Mineola Landmark Commission, Mineola Historical Museum, many volunteers and devoted historians saw a dream come to reality when the US Department of Interior placed Downtown Mineola and Historical Residential District on its list of National Register of Historic Places.

Mineola Main Street Program is an outstanding example of what can be accomplished when the city, community, and numerous volunteers work together to create and carry out a common vision!
